Love is in the Air

It's that romantic time of year when the happily coupled make dinner reservations at très chic bistros and the rest of us curl up on the couch in pajamas, with a plate of brownies, to watch The Bachelor. Actually, I've never seen the show, but I hear the star is oh so dreamy. If you've been watching, you already know, and if you haven't, it might be time to start, because the Batch and the three lady loves that remain are off to gorgeous St. Lucia on Monday for an island escape. They'll be staying at elegant boutique hotel Cap Maison and no doubt frolicking coyly for the cameras in the shade of the beautiful Pitons. If you're looking for a way to whisk your own sweetie away to pop the question, Cap Maison is making it easy with their new Proposal Package. You'll get four nights in an oceanview villa suite with a private pool, a helicopter transfer on arrival, daily breakfast and dinner, an hour couples massage, a sunset cruise, a $75 beverage credit each night you stay and a private dinner at Rock Maison (better ask her here on the first night). The package rates start at $5,750 through March and $3,400 from April to December. If she says no after all this indulgence, I'm quite happy to put down the brownies and turn off the TV.

Caribbean Proposal

If you're looking for the perfect place to pop the question this Valentine's Day, St. Lucia's new Cap Maison is a pretty safe bet. Open for just over a year, the luxury resort has received a 100 percent "yes" rating to date for proposals among its ocean villas and along the sands of Smuggler's Cove Beach – pretty solid odds for any prospective groom. Among many successful engagement stories at the property, one recent proposal took place aboard the resort's luxury yacht, while another proposal occurred at Rock Maison – a private cocktail deck perched high in the hills – with a zip line delivering the ring to the couple's table. And now, you can even work with the resort's new Proposal Concierge to come up with a customized proposal plan that's all your own. Rates start at $435 per night through March 31 – just log on to capmaison.com to book your stay. And let us be the first to say congrats!

Summer Lovin'

Maybe it's just the steamy temperatures, but love is definitely in the air this summer - at least according to the many romantic vacation packages we've found this week.

BERMUDA

At Bermuda's AAA Four-Diamond Cambridge Beaches Resort & Spa, lovebirds can enjoy a little R&R with the Romance & Resort Credits package, offering a bottle of champagne, breakfast in bed, a 50-minute couple's massage, and your choice of either a three-day moped rental to explore the island, or a $200 resort credit. The package is a $900 add-on to general rates, which start at $590 per night double occupancy for a water-view room. Just stay a minimum of four nights and you'll enjoy a $400 resort credit too.

BELIZE

Eco-lovers can head to Belize where the all-inclusive Cayo Espanto is offering a seven-night Ultimate Romance package for $7,995 per couple that includes accommodations in an over-water bungalow, a half-day private boat charter and snorkel excursion to Hol Chan, one massage treatment per person and a bottle of bubbly. If you can't spare the whole week, the private-island resort also offers a three-night package for $3,995. Both packages are inclusive of taxes and resort fees.

TURKS & CAICOS

Over in the Turks & Caicos, the 91-room luxury Gansevoort resort on Grace Bay Beach is offering its Steal Away package that includes a junior ocean-view suite, daily breakfast á deux, a daily "Exhale" mind-and-body class for two, welcome cocktails and a 35-percent discount on spa services at the Exhale Spa, all starting at $295 per night double occupancy.

Also in the Turks & Caicos, the luxury boutique Point Grace hotel has put together a new Do Your Own Thing package for sweethearts seeking a little alone time. Starting at $2,022 per couple, the five-night package includes accommodations in a Cottage Suite, daily continental breakfast and cocktail hour, a candlelit dinner at Grace's Cottage restaurant, airport transfers and private on-site shuttle service between amenities, as well as special "his" and "hers" perks like a 3-hour spa experience and 18-holes of golf at the Provo Golf Club.

BAHAMAS

And just a short hop over to the Bahamas, the One&Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island is offering a five-night Romance in Paradise package starting at $4,981 per couple that includes a 15-percent savings on accommodations as well as a welcome bottle of Tattinger Brut, daily breakfast, two 140-minute massages, romantic turndown service and plush bathrobes to keep. Taxes, resort fees and housekeeping gratuities are also included.

Some of these romance packages are only available through the end of the summer, so check each resort's site for blackout dates and other details. Not in the mood for love? Check out our Editor's Picks for other great deals around the Caribbean.

Cinderella Story

W
hen I picture fairy tales, pretty much the last thing that springs to my mind (besides maybe the dentist) is basketball. Idyllic settings, yes…romance, definitely. Just generally not sports. But Nisbet Plantation Beach Club’s latest promotion is out to prove that hoops and fantasy really can go hand in hand.

To coincide with NCAA March Madness this year, the resort has launched the First Annual Cinderella Hoopla Contest, serving up a complimentary stay at the dreamy plantation inn for two lucky fans and their guests. Just log on to the official contest site by midnight on March 17th to pick your favorite Men’s and Women’s “Cinderella Team” – to be determined by how long the teams remain in the championships and in their respective seeds – and Nisbet will draw one prize winner for each.

The fairy tale ending? Two five-night vacations for two, including luxury accommodations, daily breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner. For official rules, click here.

Maybe it’s not a fairy tale I’ve ever imagined, but taking a free trip to Nevis sounds like my kind of sport.
